Jeremy Hayhurst has over 36 years experience working for the fire service both as an operational fire officer, attending many incidents over this period and as a fire safety officer. He is a Graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers, qualified as a fire safety officer at the Fire Service College in Gloucestershire and has the NEBOSH general certificate. In addition he has undertaken numerous professional development courses including the Colin Todd fire risk assessment course and fire risk assessment in high-rise flats.
The benefits of his experience as an operational fire fighter are that he has gained an understanding of the causes of fires as well as how a fire will behave in certain properties or situations. He also has a good understanding of the behaviour of people in fire situations.
As a fire safety officer he has been responsible for some of the highest risk premises in West Yorkshire including major A&E hospitals, heritage buildings, large industrial sites, universities and their accommodation blocks, theatres, cinemas and other places of public assembly together with a variety of high-rise commercial and domestic premises.
During the course of this work he has assisted building owners, occupiers and managers to overcome a range of practical fire safety problems in a way that ensures the safety of the occupants without hindering the use of the building and by the most economical of means.
